DALLAS – In an email, Dallas Police Chief David Brown says, “Due to a commitment of resources from state and federal partners we have been able to minimize hour changes for officers. Dallas Officers have also volunteered to work in some of the work groups.” This is one day after Chief Brown told the Dallas City Council’s Public Safety Committee that 600 police officers would need to work the overnight shift in response to a sharp spike in homicides and violent crime. In response to the massive shift changes, The Black Police Officers Union called to Chief Brown to resign. Lt. Thomas Glover released this statement:
“The department is at risk of erupting into chaos,” Glover said. “This cannot happen to the great City of Dallas and its fine citizens. As such, we emphatically state that we believe his tenure as Chief of Police should end.”
The head of the Latino Police officers union wrote on his Facebook page, “Meeting with Chief Brown and effective immediately officers will remain on their watches and days off….. No 8p-4am…. Outside resources will assist with current rise in crime … Stay tuned for more updates”
