FORNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Forney City Council unanimously approved a resolution to place the nation’s motto on all police and fire department vehicles.
The “In God We Trust” decals will be donated by a local business and won’t cost the taxpayers anything.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion saying municipalities that display the motto on their vehicles would likely survive any court challenge.
Forney joins a growing list of municipalities in North Texas adding the motto to government vehicles. Ennis, North Richland Hills, Eastland, Dublin, Early, Bowie, Graham, Prosper, Gunter and Van Alstyne police departments have put the decals on patrol cars. They’re also on sheriff’s department vehicles in Collin, Parker, Hood, Hunt, McLennan, and Stephens counties.
