DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – An 18-year-old who admitted to murdering a couple in Garland when he was 13 will be paroled, rather than being sent to adult prison, when he turns 19.
Antonio Ocampo and his girlfriend were convicted of killing her parents in 2010. Darlene Nevil, 46, was fatally shot after returning home from work. Investigators said the teenagers then waited for her husband Alan, 48, to get home. He was shot several times, according to police reports.
“I’ve lost faith in the justice system,” said Charlotte Nevil, Alan Nevil’s sister-in-law. “We were told that if we accepted the plea bargain and did not go to trial that he would have to serve the time that was agreed upon. We thought we were going to court on Wednesday to send him on to the big house.”
Ocampo will be sent to a halfway house upon his release and will remain on parole for the remainder of his 28 year sentence. “They said he has matured, but I really think he learned how to play the game in the juvenile justice system. He got all of the counseling and all of the professional help to learn how to beat the system,” said Nevil.
