GRANBURY, TX (WBAP/KLIF) — A two year old Granbury girl is recovering nicely, to the great relief of her parents, after she was bitten by a copperhead snake.
Kiley Cook was on the playground at Rainbow’s Promise Daycare in Granbury when the snake struck. Her mother, Nataly Horn, was also at the school at the time but attending to the needs of another class when it happened.
Kiley’s dad, Michael Cook, got what he described to WFAA-TV as a hysterical phone call informing him that his daughter had been bitten and was being rushed to a hospital.
The girl was flown to Children’s in Fort Worth where emergency staff treats an average of 17 to 25 snake bites per year. By the time she arrived her dad says her finger had turned black and her hand and arm were severely swollen.
Kiley will be okay but her family was very worried for a time. Kiley’s mom, Nataly, told WFAA, “We’re scared to even let her go outside right now.”
The day care center is taking extra precautions to prevent future snake attacks.
Snake expert Mark Pyle warns people need to wear shoes while walking through grassy areas in the spring and watch where you step.
