DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The chief of the Dallas Police Department and leaders of the city’s LGBT community sat down to clear the air on Tuesday.
The Resource Center had called on DPD to end its relationship with the First Baptist Church, which sponsors the “Back the Blue” counseling program.
“Based upon [David Brown’s] comments, I don’t think he will step away from this association with First Baptist Church or others,” said Cece Cox, a spokeswoman for the Resource Center. “He said its the police department’s and his job to ensure that everyone has free speech.”
Cox said Pastor Robert Jeffress has made anti-LGBT comments that have contributed directly to a string of assaults of people in Oaklawn. “We asks that [DPD] dedicate all resources necessary to solving the 18 plus unsolved assaults,” added Cox.
