DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Some folks in the Metroplex are learning the hard way about driving in heavy rain and flooded streets.
A couple of motorists found themselves having to be rescued after driving into rushing water and getting stranded, and Sarah Schimmer with AAA Texas says if you’re thinking about doing the same, don’t.
“We want to remind people to turn around, don’t drown,” said Schimmer. A mere six inches of fast-moving water can carry away some vehicles. It could actually make your vehicle float.”
If that happens, she says cut your losses and get out of the car, ASAP.
But it’s not just driving through creeks and streams that could cause you grief…your commute can be just as dangerous. If heavy rain hits while you’re driving home, she says slow down, put down the phone, and pay extra attention to what’s going on around you.
