Fort Hood (WBAP/KLIF News) – Search crews have found the four soldiers who were swept away when their truck was caught in high water this week at Fort Hood.
The US Army says the soldiers’ bodies were found Friday, about 24 hours after they were caught in flash flooding.
“I’d like to offer my heartfelt and sincerest condolences to the family and friends who have lost one of their loved ones,” says Major General John Uberti.
Civilian crews had stepped in to help the Army search for the soldiers who were missing. Uberti says the Army is offering counseling to the friends and families of the soldiers who died.
“Our focus now is on notifying the next of kin and caring for our soldiers who have lost one of their teammates,” he says.
A spokesman for Fort Hood says conditions for the training operation were appropriate when the soldiers left, but the water rose too quickly. The US Army is now investigating to look at how similar conditions may be handled differently in the future.
The Red Cross has been raising money for the victims’ families. Earlier, the agency had been taking donations of supplies for crews that were searching for the soldiers who went missing.
Three soldiers who were injured have been released from the hospital.
