Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – The near-drowning of a 16-year old boy in Irving is a stark reminder of why those who can’t swim might want to avoid the pool, or better yet, learn to swim.
If it’s your kids who can’t swim, Dallas Parks and Recreation might be able to help.
“If they don’t know how to swim, we encourage people to enroll them in swim lessons,” said Robin Steinshnider, Dallas Parks and Rec Aquatics Director. “The Parks and Recreation Department has a great scholarship fund; we don’t want anyone to miss out on swim lessons just because they can’t afford it.”

Steinshnider says they have lifeguards trained in First Aid and CPR at all the city’s pools, as well as all the required safety equipment and more. But she says your kids’ first, best line of defense against drowning is you…being there, keeping an eye on them.
