ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Homicides are up this year in Arlington and police are concerned because the majority of the victims were killed with guns.
Of the dozen people murdered so far this year, ten were shot.
Arlington had eight homicides in 2015.
“The spike in homicides does not necessarily represent a trend because homicide rates are subject to short-term fluctuations,” said Kent Kerley, the chairman of the UT Arlington Criminal Justice Department.
Lieutenant Christopher Cook told the Star Telegram that the department will continue to partner with Operation Safety Net that works to reverse violent crime trends and get stolen guns off the street.
