FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF NEWS) – Fort Worth based American Airlines will change the frequent flier program in less than two months. Starting August 1st, you will earn award miles based on your ticket price and elite status. So, the more you spend and the higher your elite status, the more miles you’ll earn. Currently, frequent fliers earn miles based on how many miles are flown. The program mirrors changes already made by other carriers like Delta and United. Dallas based Southwest Airlines already follows a similar model. Here is the mileage breakdown as of August 1st.
American Advantage® member – 5 miles for every U.S. dollar
Gold member – 7 miles for every U.S. dollar (40% bonus)
Platinum member – 8 miles for every U.S. dollar (60% bonus)
Executive Platinum member – 11 miles for every U.S. dollar (120% bonus)
