PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) – After the funeral for a Mississippi woman killed in Texas, her family and friends held a festival to celebrate her life.
Brandon Bardwell of Pascagoula tells the Sun Herald of Biloxi that he and his sister, 27-year-old Jessie Bardwell, had promised each other a festival for whoever died first. He says they wanted something other than a sad service.
Jessie Bardwell had moved to the Dallas suburb of Richardson in December. Her body was found May 19 in a field in Farmersville, about 35 miles northeast of Dallas. Her father had reported her missing May 8. Her boyfriend, Jason Lowe, was arrested May 16 on a murder charge.
The Love and Light Festival included art, five bands, and a second-line parade. It followed a funeral at First Methodist Church.
