CORSICANA, Texas (AP) – An eight-mile stretch of Interstate 45 in Navarro County between Dallas and Houston has reopened after floodwaters from heavy overnight storms in Central and North Texas receded.
Authorities say the highway was closed Monday morning south of Corsicana and north of Fairfield after the road was inundated by an overflowing Chambers Creek. The creek empties into the Chambers Richland Reservoir just east of the freeway and is prone to flooding.
The highway, which is about 50 miles south of Dallas, reopened shortly before noon Monday.
Later Monday, a line of thunderstorms moved through North Texas, unleashing gusty winds of up to 50 mph and brief but heavy rains. Oncor reports about 13,000 customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were without power Monday, but service was restored to half within hours.
