Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Some call it “catch and kill”; a proposal to deal with stray dogs in parts of Dallas with high instances of dog bites is to immediately euthanize all dogs caught running loose.
But that could have tragic consequences, says one animal rights activist.
“By eliminating the stray hold time, that means the dog comes into Dallas Animal Services, and it could be euthanized that day, while people are out looking, or maybe have been out of town,” said Jonnie England.
England likes other proposals, including mandatory micro-chipping of all dogs and cats, and stiller fines for irresponsible owners. She says she’d like to see the City Marshals enforcing city animal code during their warrant sweeps.
The City is expected to adopt a plan or plans in August.
