Arlington (WBAP/KLIF News) – An Arlington man will sleep more comfortably and enjoy watching the Rangers on TV more, now that he has a new central air conditioning unit.
Mike Gillespie is disabled, and hasn’t had a properly functioning AC in years. With his medical condition, he needs the cool air.
“It’s more beneficial for him to be in a cool environment,” said Steve Cook, with Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County. “It’s not just a want, it’s a need. He’s been without for quite some time, I don’t know exactly how long. But it gets pretty warm inside the house. Getting a central AC unit allows the whole house to be cool.”
Meals on Wheels teams up every summer with TXU Energy for the “Beat the Heat” program, in which one customer a year gets a new air conditioning system. This is the 14th year of the program. TXU energy also helps thousands of low income customers pay their power bills over the summer each year.
