Frisco (WBAP/KLIF News) – Frisco City Manager George Purefoy says the $30 million given to the Cowboys by the Frisco Independent School District is an investment. He says “The Star” practice and operations facility will attract economic development, and the District will be able to use it for athletic events, marching band competitions, and so on.
“They did put $30 million into it,” said Purefoy. “But that’s going to run at a cost of $2 million per year, and it also saves the School District from having to build a third stadium on their own.”
The Frisco ISD is running a $35 million deficit, but Purefoy blames the state school funding law for that.
Outgoing Mayor Maher Maso used the State of the City address to talk about ongoing economic development, and construction projects that are scheduled to start in the near future. He says Frisco is a place where people want to live, and that means higher property values…which in turn means high property taxes.
“So values do go up, and our City Council’s very aware of that, and is always trying to keep that rate low, yet build the infrastructure, and have the best public safety,” said Maso.
Maso didn’t go so far as to endorse his replacement, but said whoever the next mayor is needs to champion local authority, and keep state and national politics out of Frisco.
