AUSTIN (AP) – Texas has told federal officials the state will no longer provide aid to refugees over what Republican leaders say are security concerns.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Wednesday the state will withdrawal from the federally funded refugee resettlement program unless demands for refugee screening are “unconditionally” met by Sept. 30.
A judge has previously rejected Texas’ efforts to halt the arrival of new refugees from Syria in the wake of November’s deadly attacks in Paris.
