Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas City Council’s Public Safety Committee wants to know what’s being done to make the streets around DART’s West End Station safer.
Leaders of the DPD, DART and El Centro police departments talked about their co-operation even before the events of 7-7-16.
“DART officers, along with DPD officers, would get together at least once a week and address quality of life violations in and around the West end DART station,” said DART Police Chief James Spiller. “Those issues can range from criminal trespass, public intoxication, vending without a permit, solicitation, and sleeping in public.”
Spiller said they have a great working relationship with both El Centro and DPD, but for efficiency’s sake, they’d like to have the power to enforce Dallas city ordinances.
El Centro Police Chief Joseph Hannigan said radio communications could improve. His officers have radios with which to talk with DPD dispatch, but there’s no contact with DART, whose officers communicate by cellphone.
