Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A non-partisan debate watching party will happen tonight at SMU’s Umphrey Lee Center, from 7:30-10:30. It’s being put on by Director of Debate Ben Voth. Assistant Professor of Communications Dr. Stephanie Martin says for many of her students, this will be their first election.
“We’re hoping to get 25-30 students, but if we’re lucky, we may get as many as 50 students,” said Martin. “There’s a lot of interest in this election, and a lot of students are paying attention to what’s happening.”
Contrary to what some in the media have been predicting, Martin thinks the debate will at least start on a cordial and respectful tone. But whether it stays that way as the 90-minute debate progresses, is anyone’s guess, she says.
