DENTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Denton County has launched a new text-to-911 service.
Denton County Area 911 District Deputy Executive Director Greg Ballentine says its purpose is aimed for people who are deaf or hard of hearing but it can also be helpful for people to contact 911 without being noticed.
“It’s unsafe for them to make a voice call or they don’t want to give their location away or perhaps they are in a violent situation,” said Ballentine.
Ballentine says if someone texts 911 and that service is not available, the sender should receive a message back from his or her carrier.
