FRONTON, TX (WBAP/KLIF News) — A Texas state trooper was hit by gunfire on the Mexican border but it seems he was an innocent bystander.
The unidentified trooper was on foot patrol along the Rio Grande about 105 miles north of Brownsville when he went down, shot in the leg by a stray bullet fired in a Mexican gun fight across the river. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency released a statement saying a federal agent was also hit but was protected by body armor. He’s hospitalized in stable condition and authorities say they don’t know what the gunfight was about or who was involved.
