DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) A porn expo is hoping to make a comeback to Dallas. The city council banned Exxxotica earlier this year which held an event at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center last year. Later a judge ruled that the center wasn’t a “quintessential public forum” open to anyone. Organizers behind the expo hope to convince a federal judge that the venue is a public forum protected by the first amendment and available to anyone who pays to rent the space. There were concerns from the public that the controversial event would encourage sex crimes and violate the state’s obscenity laws. Police chief David Brown told council members he found no illegal wrong doing at the 2015 event. A request for a new hearing on the matter has been filed. Exxxotica is asking for several things from the city including a date for a 2017 expo and payment for lost revenue when it was banned this year.
