(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.03 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents more than last week and 23 cents more per gallon than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in the Lone Star State, drivers in Dallas are paying the most on average at $2.07 per gallon while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $1.95 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.23 which is three cents more than last week and 22 cents more per gallon than last year.
Drivers in Dallas Fort Worth are paying around $2.07 this week, up 7 cents over last week and substantially more than the $1.84 per gallon paid this time last year.
The national average has increased following the OPEC oil production agreement on November 30. Last month, OPEC agreed to cut output by 1.2 million barrels per day beginning January 2017 and markets have continued to react to the production cut agreement with crude oil prices hitting an 18 month high. Retail prices have steadily increased following the news of the OPEC agreement, but the effectiveness of the deal and continued market impacts will hinge on all countries implementing the agreed to production levels.
“Texans are now paying about $28 to fill up the typical 14-gallon size fuel tank which is about $3 more per fill-up than last year,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe. “Still, Texans are paying among the cheapest gas prices in the nation.”
