DALLAS (WBAP & KLIF News) — One North Texas lawmaker wasn’t overly bothered by President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration.
U-S Congressman Pete Sessions of Texas’ 32nd congressional district told KLIF’s Dave & Amy he isn’t surprised by the order because change is expected whenever there’s a change in power in the United States.
“The president is given wide latitude, has always been given [wide latitude] as much as I can tell, and will continue to be given wide latitude to protect this country,” Sessions said.
He also says protests at airports across the country like DFW International Airport are more about pent up frustration after a contentious election rather than the issue of immigration itself.
“This is also what comes about when you have new presidents, new people in an administration, and new people who had been waiting with their thoughts and ideas,” Sessions said.
Though supporting President Trump, Sessions did say he had a couple of things he wish the president would done differently.
“I think a few [Congressman] wish they would have knew ahead of time,” Sessions said. “Secondly, I think that, in my own way of thinking, a ban meant bringing people into the country, not necessarily people that were already in the country.”
