Girl Scout cookie season is here, and the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas are using this time to spread a positive influence throughout their community.
They’re partnering with Galleria Dallas for their new campaign, “Redefining Influencers,” which aims to redefine what an influencer is for today’s youth.
“The idea here is that we know that so many girls see influencers as powerful motivations in their world,” CEO of the Northeast Texas Girl Scouts, Jennifer Bartkowski said. “They’re actually being influenced by these people, and in a lot of cases, that’s not a real role model that you want to have for a young girl.”
She says they’re highlighting three North Texas professionals who have made a major impact in their community… including one from Oak Cliff.
“Amber Williams is a chef who founded Le Rouge Cuisine, and she’s been drawing on her experiences growing up in Oak Cliff to write this new cookbook called ‘Surviving the Food Desert,’ which is proving tips to turn food pantry staples into nutritious and delicious meals,” Bartkowski said.
The organization will also be highlighting two Girl Scouts Gold Award winners as well.
“Kelsey Jahnke, she did an amazing project on the dangers of fentanyl called ‘A Focus on Fentanyl,’ and it was based on a fellow Girl Scout and good friend who went to Plano West High School and died of fentanyl poisoning,” Bartkowski said. “And then Anya Aggarwal is a sophomore, and she educated DISD youth about healthy habits and body image in a special camp called ‘Beautiful Body through Beautiful Mind – Inside and Out.’ So you can see that each of these women is changing their world in their own way and having a powerful impact. And we think these are the kinds of girls and women that girls should be looking up to… role models who are making the world a better place.”
The free exhibit debuts on January 26th, and goes through February 27th. It’s located inside the Galleria mall on the first floor across from the Apple store.
