DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – DallasNews Corporation shareholders vote to approve a merger with Hearst, in a new chapter for the Dallas Morning News and creative marketing agency Medium Giant. It also marks an end of an era for the independent newspaper, at almost the same time the paper marks it’s 140th anniversary next month.
Hearst now owns all Lone Star State major newspapers, including the Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News and Austin American-Statesman. The media giant owns 29 daily newspapers in total, 35 television stations and more than 200 magazines, in addition to ownership stakes in cable networks A&E, Lifetime and ESPN.
The Dallas Morning News was co-founded in 1885 by George Bannerman Dealey, who purchased controlling interest in the company in 1926, serving as chairman for twenty years. Once this deal closes, DallasNews Corporation will be part of Hearst Newspapers, a division of Hearst.
